Jeffrey Sperbeck, the longtime agent for former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, died on Wednesday, days after he fell off a golf cart in California.
He was 62.
The incident occurred on Saturday night in the Palm Springs-area community of La Quinta, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office said. A source familiar with the details of the incident confirmed to NBC affiliate KUSA of Denver that Elway was driving the golf cart.
KUSA reported that Sperbeck was at the Madison Club, a private golf resort community where Elway owns a home. A person who answered the phone at the club on Wednesday declined to answer questions and directed NBC News to send an email to the club.
"I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck. There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me," Elway said in a Wednesday statement.
