1968 Ford Mustang CoupeAny Ford Mustang built in the 1960s is a car that nearly anybody- car enthusiast or not- can get excited about. The classic shape and V8 burble are pure nostalgia for people who lived through the era they were produced. Although a stock example can be great fun to drive, when they really shine is after some careful modifications have been carried out that make them handle, stop and drive just a little bit better. This 1968 Mustang Coupe is a perfect example of how that ethos should be applied and after just a few minutes behind the wheel, you can really see what a difference it all makes.Finished in Winbledon White with black vinyl GT stripes on the side trim and over the top of the car, this example was sold new in Texas according to the included Marti Report. The car has a great, aggressive stance, sitting on a set of 15-inch Halibrand-style wheels that are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. In the grille sits a pair of yellow fog lights that give the car an almost rally-car look, that plays really well with the GT striping on the sides. The paint and bodywork was carried out under the care of the previous owner but has clearly been completed to a very nice standard and attention was even paid to the underside of the vehicle which presents quite well. All of the exterior lighting has been converted to LEDs and includes everybody's favorite classic Mustang feature - sequential turn signal tail lights.The interior has been nicely restored as well with some hidden technology that makes it an even better car to drive. A pair of black bucket seats up front with headrests are separated by a long brushed stainless steel center console and a pair of reupholstered rear seats in black vinyl. Slide behind the 2-spoke steering wheel and you notice a set of Dakota Digital gauges looking back at you that offer accurate readings while looking like they could have come from the factory. The stereo looks like it could be factory as well but is actually a Custom AutoSound head unit with Bluetooth capabilities that allows you to listen to your favorite music while you're on a drive. In addition, all of the interior lights have been updated with LEDs that are both bright and use far less power than the original bulbs and from the factory, this car was outfitted with rare power windows on both sides.Powering this Mustang is a 302ci V8 that has been mildly hot-rodded with jet coated Dougs headers and a full stainless Magnaflow dual exit exhaust. This is paired to a Tremec T5 5-speed manual with a period-looking Hurst shifter and modern hydraulic clutch, which sends power back to a Ford 8-inch rear axle with an Eaton Trutrac limited-slip differential. The suspension has been comprehensively modified with Ride Tech pieces that include upgraded upper and lower control arms, front coilovers, upgraded shock tower camber plates, larger front swaybar, HD Fox ride adjustable shocks and rear composite leaf springs. This helps the car handle like a modern sports car and the addition of Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes means that it now stops like one too.If you have always loved the shape of a classic Mustang but have worried about being let down by the driving experience, this could be the car for you. With these carefully considered modifications, the spirit of the car remains very similar to an original, yet everything has been improved. Building your own Mustang to this level would be significantly more expensive and tremendously time consuming.
