Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sustained a high ankle sprain Sunday and is considered week-to-week, report NBC Sports and NFL Network.

Mahomes left the Chiefs’ 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns in the fourth quarter and was replaced by Carson Wentz. He was visibly limping off the field when the game ended.

“Patrick, his right ankle has been hurt. It’s not broken, but it’s sore,” Kansas City coach Andy Reid said after the game. “He’ll get started on the rehab part of it as we go, and then we’ll just have to see how he does. It’ll literally be day-to-day. He probably could’ve gone back in. He wanted to go back in. There was no need for that.”

Mahomes said afterward that he felt he could have returned to the game but that the “smart decision” was to let Wentz finish.

The Chiefs improved to 13-1. They have a two-game lead on the Buffalo Bills for first place in the AFC, but they will next play two games in the next 10 days.Kansas City next plays the Houston Texans on Saturday and then the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
