The search continues for a former California sheriff’s deputy who vanished Tuesday while vacationing in Greece amid reports that a second American tourist has now gone missing.

Albert Calibet, who retired from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2018, disappeared after getting ready to head to the Greek island of Amorgos, a destination his family said he had repeatedly visited since 2009. A missing persons report was filed after Calibet failed to meet up with a friend.

“He knows this path, he knows this island,” family friend Robin Leon told NBC News NOW. “The mayor knows him, every cafe knows him, people know Albert on that island. They love him.”

The municipality of Amorgos said in a Facebook post that Calibet, 59, had followed the route from the Asphontylite region toward the village of Katapola. He was wearing Bermuda shorts and a dark shirt when he disappeared, officials said.

Sandrine Cutwright, Calibet’s sister-in-law, told NBC News NOW that “every minute, every hour that passes it gets more sad.”
