DENVER— A man employed by a company running a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility near Denver was charged on Wednesday with assault stemming from the shooting and wounding of an ICE protester there last week, local prosecutors said.

Brandon Booth, 42, who works for GEO Group GEO.N, was accused of opening fire with his personally-owned handgun in the direction of two women who were demonstrating outside a GEO-operated ICE processing center in Aurora, Colorado, last Thursday.

The two protesters had “initiated a verbal confrontation” with GEO employees waiting to enter the grounds of the facility and were taking pictures of the workers’ vehicles, when Booth got out of his vehicle and fired a single shot, according to Aurora police.
