He’s locked up for stealing a dead teen’s identity. The feds still don’t know his name.

The man prosecutors referred to as “the Defendant” was convicted of using stolen identification to obtain government benefits totaling nearly $284,000.

On the federal court docket in Idaho, his name is FNU LNU, as in “First Name Unknown,” “Last Name Unknown.” He maintains his name is Carlos Ramon Obregon. But, as Carlos Ramon Obregon’s own mother testified, that can’t be true: Her 14-year-old son, Carlos Ramon Obregon, died in 1977, after he was shot in the head in a drive-by in Los Angeles.
