Some of Los Angeles' car-dependent workers are figuring out how to deal with high fuel costs.

LOS ANGELES — A few months ago it cost about $50 per day for gardener Alex Teras to fill up the truck he would drive from his home in San Bernardino County to neighborhoods like Pasadena, 75 miles one way, or Rancho Cucamonga, 45 miles from his house.
