Tony Hawk’s “900” skateboard from the 1999 X Games has sold for more than $1 million, an amount that Julien’s Auctions says is record-breaking.
The original Birdhouse Falcon 2 “900” skateboard sold for $1.15 million Wednesday, which set a new benchmark for skateboarding memorabilia, according to Julien’s Auction.
“We are honored to witness him make history once again, and extend our gratitude to Tony Hawk, the Loews Hollywood Hotel, and to every bidder who made this day unforgettable,” Julien’s Auction said on a social media post.
As a pioneer of modern vertical, or so-called “vert” skateboarding, Hawk cemented his place in sports history when he landed the first-ever documented “900” — a trick involving two-and-a-half mid-air revolutions. After several failed attempts, Hawk landed the move in front of a roaring 1999 X Games crowd.
Tony Hawk was in attendance at the auction. The buyer was not disclosed.
