Douglas Weinstein, a lawyer for Deamonte Kendrick, a rapper known as Yak Gotti, said on TikTok that Kendrick was stabbed in the Fulton County Jail's south annex and that he spoke with him Sunday night as he was waiting to be transported to a hospital for stitches.
Weinstein said on X: “While he sounded tired, I expect him to make a full recovery. I expect to be able to see him in court today and will know more then."
Weinstein said he could not immediately describe the circumstances surrounding the incident or the extent of Kendrick's injuries.
The Fulton County Sheriff's Office confirmed in a statement that Kendrick was involved in an altercation with another inmate and required "treatment for minor injuries from a sharp object at the Fulton County Jail."
