Tinder pauses AI tool after it gave some daters unsolicited makeovers

One of Tinder’s AI tools altered some users’ appearances without their permission. The app said it has paused the feature in the U.S. in order to investigate and build additional safeguards.

When Jenny Rubin opened Tinder last week, she got an in-app notification that one of her profile photos had been “enhanced.” When she opened the photo, she was surprised to see her closed-mouth smile had been replaced with a wide, toothy grin that wasn’t hers.
