Used 1974 DeTomaso Pantera

1974 DeTomaso Pantera GTS The 1970s were an era where wedgy supercars were coming into style, and although many credit the Lamborghini Countach as the ultimate in wedge styling, the DeTomaso Pantera came first. Designed by American designer living in Italy Tom Tjaarda, the Pantera was DeTomaso’s most successful car and was the only car from the brand officially sold in the United States, where Ford offered it in Lincoln/Mercury dealerships around the country. The GTS was only offered in the United States during the 1974 model year, and the majority were sold exclusively in California. This 1974 DeTomaso Pantera GTS was sold new at Murphy Lincoln-Mercury of Long Beach, California in December of 1974. One of just 150 GTSs sold new in the US, this example is one of 60 in this color. Some of the GTS signature styling features include the two-tone paint, with black painted rockers, front trunk panel, and rear engine lid, paired with Pantera GTS graphics down the side. Other GTS upgrades include GTS badging and riveted fender-flares that allowed for wider tires, and gave the car a more aggressive look. This car benefits from a repaint in factory colors by a previous owner, along with a few desirable upgrades that take it to the next level. One of the most noticeable upgrades is a set of polished 17-inch Campagnolo-style billet aluminum wheels that mimic the original Pantera wheel design, just in a larger size. This makes fitting improved brakes easier, which this car has in the form of a Wilwood master cylinder and cross-drilled brake rotors. The interior has been refinished with black fine-grain leather seat covers, with the GTS logo embroidered in the headrests, while the dashboard, center console and door cards are all wrapped in a matching black. Slide behind the 3-spoke MOMO steering wheel and you are met by a tightly spaced tachometer and speedometer, while a line of four auxiliary gauges are positioned towards you in the center console. One of the special features that came with the GTS-trim was an analog clock that is fitted right in front of the passenger on the dashboard - and works in this example. Powering the Pantera GTS is a Ford 351ci Cleveland V8 that was rebuilt under prior ownership. This engine benefits from a few notable upgrades including a Holley carburetor, Edelbrock low-rise intake and a custom exhaust system with quad-exit tips. Dual electric fans have been added to the radiator that help keep the car cool. Connected to this V8 is a ZF-sourced 5-speed manual transaxle with a thrilling gated shifter in the cabin. Adjustable coil-over shocks have been fit at all four corners and an adjustable engine-bay brace helps to stiffen the chassis, making this a really fantastic example to drive. There are many Panteras that have been modified to GTS-specification, but this is one of the 150 real cars produced for the United States with Marti Report verification. What makes the Pantera such a great classic is that you get the stunning, supercar looks that Italy does so well, paired with a reliable Ford powertrain that you can find parts for at any local auto parts store. This combination makes for a fast car that you can do much of the work on yourself, but will draw tons of attention every time you’re driving it. Key Features * 1 of 150 Original US-Market Pantera GTSs * 1 of 60 in Silver/Black * Refurbished Under Previous Ownership * Repaint in Original Color Combo * Engine Rebuild * Transaxle Rebuild * Wilwood Brake Master Cylinder Upgrade * 17-Inch Campagnolo-Style Billet Aluminum Wheels * 351ci Cleveland V8 * Holley Carburetor * Edelbrock Intake * Custom Exhaust * Re-Trimmed Interior With Fine Grain Leather Additional Information * Deluxe Marti Report * Some Spare Parts For more information on this 1974 DeTomaso Pantera GTS or any of our High-Performance, Luxury, Exotic, and Special Interest cars always in stock, contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants or always feel free to drop by our 40,000+ sq ft of Indoor Showrooms in Bellevue, WA  Home of an Exciting Inventory of Luxury, Exotic, High Performance and Collectible Automobiles.
