Twelve people in the village - among them four Britons - were killed, according to Spanish authorities. Another 23 people are still missing.
Lucinda Curtois, who arrived in Spain with her partner Riyaz Cheytan and their teenage children on Thursday, said they were not "expecting to hit a wall of fire".
They later found out that some close family friends had lost their lives.
