Used 1970 Chevrolet El Camino

1970 Chevrolet El Camino These days, a truck is a perfectly reasonable vehicle to daily drive. As easy to drive as most sedans and most offering a full suite of luxury features, you don’t give up anything when you add a bed on the back. But in the 1960s and 1970s, that was far from the case. Trucks were stiffly sprung and rough riding workhorses with lots of torque but barely enough power to keep up with the flow of interstate traffic. With the introduction of the Chevrolet El Camino and Ford Ranchero, manufacturers were now able to offer a vehicle with truck levels of practicality, that drove like a passenger car. This 1970 El Camino is a beautiful example that has received a host of mechanical and visual upgrades to make it quite a special car. Purchased by the consignor in 1995, he then began undertaking a multi-year restoration to turn this El Camino into a great looking driver. The exterior features a beautiful two-tone paint scheme that is separated by the lower chrome body trim with the upper section painted in deep LeMans Blue - a special color for the 2005 Corvette Z06- and a Ford silver on the bottom. The bodywork was all dialed in to get it nice and straight, as was the chrome trim around the vehicle. Currently the car sits on a set of American Racing Torq-Thrust wheels that are wrapped in Goodyear tires, and a second set of American Racing 3-split-spoke wheels with tires are also included with the sale. The car has a great stance that is also adjustable thanks to a coilover conversion both front and rear that helps the car ride and handle far better than stock. The interior of most El Caminos is simply a bench seat with a simple dash laid out in front of you. Although not tremendously different, this El Camino has been built with a pair of nicely padded Sparco bucket seats up front with VDO Gauges sitting off to the side of the 4-spoke steering wheel on a collapsible column. The doors have been reupholstered and a Hurst shifter is fitted in the center console. Under the hood sits a 350ci V8 that has been carefully upgraded to increase performance and driving enjoyment, without sacrificing the engine’s legendary reliability. When this motor was built about 5,000 miles ago, the builder went through the Edelbrock catalog and added aluminum heads, a performance cam, chromoly pushrods, water pump, fuel pump, timing gear set up and carburetor with a K&N filter on top. Additionally, Crane roller rockers were installed in the heads and an MSD ignition gives the car plenty of spark. A set of jet-coated Hedman Headers send the exhaust through Flowmaster mufflers that give this truck the muscle car tone you would expect from a nicely built 350ci V8 of the era. This engine sends power back through a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox with a beefy Centerforce clutch to the rear wheels via a GM 12-bolt rear end with 4.10 gears. In addition to the previously mentioned coilover suspension, the car now has sway bars font and rear, a Corvette steering box and power disc brakes at all four corners. With all of this work, the car is so much fun to drive and with the minimal weight over the rear wheels, is happy to light up the tires any time you want to put on a little show. The El Camino is a great classic for a whole host of reasons. Not only does it look great, it offers an amazing combination of Muscle Car performance with truck practicality. This example has been very nicely built and will provide enormous enjoyment for its new owner. Key Features * 350ci V8 * Edelbrock Aluminum Heads * Edelbrock Performance Cam * Edelbrock Chromoly Pushrods * Edelbrock Water Pump * Edelbrock Timing Set and Chain * Edelbrock Carburetor * MSD Ignition * Hedman Headers * Fluidampr Vibration Damper * Flowmaster Mufflers * K&N Air FIlter * Crane Roller Rockers * Electric Radiator Fan * Tremec 5-Speed Manual Gearbox * Centerforce Clutch * Hurst Shifter * Full Coilover Suspension * 4-Wheel Power Disc Brakes * 12-Bolt Rear End w/4.10 Gears * Corvette Steering Box * Sparco Bucket Seats * American Racing Wheels * Two Sets * Two-Tone Paint * Corvette LeMans Blue and Ford Silver Additional Information * Owner’s Booklet * Battery Tender * Fire Extinguisher For more information on this 1970 Chevrolet El Camino or any of our other Luxury, Exotic, Sports, and Special Interest cars in our inventory contact our friendly and knowledgeable sales team or, if you are local to us, call and schedule a visit to our 40,000+ sq. ft. of Indoor Showrooms in Bellevue, WA - Home of an Exciting Inventory of Luxury, Exotic, High Performance, and Collectible Automobiles.
