The CIA officer accused of stashing gold bars had a romantic relationship with his eventual boss

The agency learned he had a past romantic relationship with his most recent supervisor, sources said.

WASHINGTON — The senior CIA officer arrested in May with several hundred gold bars stashed at his house received additional money or valuables as part of his top-secret work for the agency — which federal investigators have not been able to locate, according to four people with knowledge of the investigation.
