Trump to be briefed on options for Iran as energy prices soar to 4-year high

Iran warned President Trump's naval blockade was “doomed to fail” as oil prices soared to their highest point in years with the standoff over the Strait of Hormuz wreaking havoc on the global economy.

President Donald Trump will be briefed Thursday on options for the way ahead in the Strait of Hormuz and on the ground in Iran, according to a U.S. official familiar with the planning.

CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper will brief Trump and the president's senior national security team at the White House, the official said, and update them on the continued U.S. blockade of Iran's ports.

The update came after energy prices soared to their highest point in years with little sign of a deal to end the war.
