A man was rescued from inside a garbage truck Wednesday morning in San Francisco, according to the fire department.

Firefighters were dispatched around 4:11 a.m. to the 100 block of Mason Street following a report of a person trapped inside a Recology garbage truck.

According to SFFD, the truck’s driver had been flagged down and told that someone could be heard yelling from inside the garbage area of the truck.

About 25 firefighters responded to the scene, and the rescue operation took roughly two hours, according to fire officials.

The man was eventually rescued and was conscious, breathing and talking before being taken to a hospital, according to a San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
