Inside Ukraine’s underground school shielding children from Russian bombs

While much of the city bears the scars of five years of war, below the ground at Kharkiv Lyceum No. 24, everything is new and ready to accommodate 1,000 children.

KHARKIV, Ukraine — Children are returning to class in Ukraine this week, but for some, this year will be different. Underneath the city of Kharkiv, in the northeast, a newly built facility will allow lessons to continue uninterrupted amid the near-constant threat of Russian bombardment.
