Charlotte officials are set to meet and address transit safety concerns on Wednesday in the wake of the fatal stabbing of a Ukrainian refugee on the city's public transit that has generated national outrage in recent days.

Officials from the Metropolitan Transit Commission will meet on Wednesday morning to address safety concerns after Iryna Zarutska was fatally stabbed on a Charlotte Area Transit System train in North Carolina last month. And on Wednesday afternoon, Charlotte Councilman Malcolm Graham will also address reporters at the Charlotte Transit Station in Uptown Charlotte to address safety concerns.

Zarutska, 23, recently emigrated to the United States from Ukraine to escape her country's invasion from Russia, according to her family.

Security footage of her killing shows Zarutska being abruptly stabbed in the neck by a passenger seated behind her without any provocation. Seconds later, without receiving help or any visible concern from other train passengers, Zarutska collapses to the train floor where she was later pronounced dead.

On Tuesday, Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, was charged with committing an act causing death on a mass transportation system in connection with the stabbing.
