China’s AI chip industry races to catch Nvidia amid restrictions

At the World AI Conference, Chinese chipmakers pitched their hardware to customers who can’t get Nvidia’s technology — and can’t get enough of theirs, either.

SHANGHAI — Chips were on the menu at China’s largest AI gathering over the weekend, as salespeople barked into microphones to tout advances in microscopic engineering and entourages trailed regional government officials marveling at brightly lit trade displays.
