At the moment, only two athletic programs — Washington State and Oregon State — remain in the league that had once proudly called itself the “Conference of Champions.”
Starting July 1, 2026, the new-look league, headquartered in the San Francisco suburb of San Ramon, California, will have at least six schools, as current Mountain West members Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State come on board.
The rebuilt conference will need to poach at least two more schools to reach eight, the NCAA minimum for conference recognition.
The NCAA granted the Pac-12 a two-year grace period to reach eight by summer 2026 after a series of shocking defections.
