The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing his mother Sunday at his grandmother’s home in Auburndale, northeast of Tampa, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told reporters.
The teen faces charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and violation of a no-contact order, the sheriff’s office said. NBC News does not typically name minors charged with crimes.
Judd said he is seeking to have the teen tried as an adult. It is not clear whether he has a lawyer to speak on his behalf.

The teen called 911 around 6 p.m. and said his mother had fallen on a knife after a long fight and was bleeding from the neck, Judd said.
