Lindsay Clancy defense wants to remove juror it says won’t ‘listen to the law’ amid deadlock

The Massachusetts jury, still deadlocked after six days of deliberations, must decide whether Clancy is criminally responsible in the killings of her three children.

The Lindsay Clancy murder trial appeared to be heading toward a mistrial Thursday as the jury remained deadlocked after six days of deliberations, and a question raised by the panel prompted the defense to call for one of the jurors to be dismissed.

The jury on Wednesday handed Massachusetts Superior Court Judge William Sullivan its second deadlock notice, alerting the court that the nine women and three men could not reach a unanimous decision on Clancy’s fate. The first deadlock note came Tuesday morning.

On Thursday, the jury submitted a question to Sullivan following its lunch break.

He instead repeated his instructions on the definition of reasonable doubt.

“A charge is proved beyond a doubt if, after you’ve compared and considered all of the evidence, you have in your minds an abiding conviction to a moral certainty that the charge is true,” Sullivan said.
