The estimated $28 billion the U.S. poured into the Iran war before the ceasefire could have funded a year of free daycare for 2 million children or free rent for 1.2 million people, an NBC News analysis found.

President Donald Trump recently told a group of supporters at the White House that the U.S. couldn’t help Americans pay for day care or health insurance because it had to prioritize spending on the military.
