Machado appeared in Oslo in the middle of the night, marking the first time she has been seen in public since January.
The 58-year-old made the covert journey despite a travel ban and a threat from the Venezuelan government that she would be labelled as a fugitive.
"They [the Venezuelan government] say I'm a terrorist and have to be in jail for the rest of my life, and they're looking for me," she said.
"So leaving Venezuela today, in these circumstances, is very, very dangerous."
