1996 Land Rover Defender 110 King DefenderIn 1983 Land Rover debuted their new Defender, based on the earlier Series Land Rovers, it was their updated answer to the Willys Jeep based trucks they had been building since the 1940s but with more of an eye to creature comforts. This was no small task as it also needed to maintain the serious off road credentials that Land Rover had become so well known for. With the introduction of items such as coil springs, an updated interior, progressively more powerful engines and in 1984, roll up windows, the Defender became the automatic choice for outdoor adventurers and English farmers alike.As with many cars that become cult classics, the enthusiast community for the Defender is massive and a large-scale industry has sprouted up with the sole intention of improving on the trucks with modern accessories. This 1996 Defender 110 is a perfect example of someone who went all out with the updates and has made a very special one of a kind vehicle. Built by King Defender in Spokane Washington, this Guinness Edition'' Defender 110 is a full custom build that has seen less than 500 miles of use since its completion in 2023. Finished in Black Copper, this Defender underwent a nut and bolt restoration, where it received numerous updates without changing the original feel of the truck. A set of 16 gloss black wheels off of a later model Defender have been fitted and are wrapped in knobby BF-Goodrich K02 tires, and black steel bumpers have been installed both front and rear.The interior is a beautiful combination of cream leatherette, paired with high quality black carpets and black piping on everything. One thing that is unique about this Defender build is the sport bucket seats installed both up front and in the second row, which are both paired with custom center consoles. More often than not, these cars are set up with a second row bench, so this adds some comfort for the passengers, and gives them a place to store things between their seats. In the rear, two fold down benches have been upholstered to match and mean that this Defender is spacious enough for 8 passengers. Many of the electronics have been upgraded on the inside and this car is fitted with a back up camera, Pioneer sound system, LED Lighting and power windows.Powering this rig is the original 2.5 liter turbo diesel inline 5 known as the 300TDi which is legendary for its reliability. Rated at 111 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, this engine has plenty of power to cruise at highway speeds and the 5-speed manual gearbox makes extracting the performance more fun. The suspension has been upgraded as well with a front steering stabilizer, track bar and sway bars both front and rear which help this Defender feel far more stable on the highway.The Land Rover Defender is a perfect blank canvas to modify and upgrade, however best fits your wants and needs.
