Last spring when NFL team owners met to vote on league matters, the Detroit Lions were among the teams that voted against banning the “tush push,” the assisted quarterback-sneak play the Philadelphia Eagles had run to perfection while winning a Super Bowl.

Six months later, Detroit didn’t need a rule to stop it — it stuffed one of the NFL’s most unstoppable plays multiple times on “Sunday Night Football.” But it was all for naught, because in Week 11, Philadelphia’s defense was even better.

In a 16-9 win that improved the Eagles to 8-2, Philadelphia allowed points on just two of Detroit’s 12 drives. That included stopping the Lions — who had scored on all but one drive last week, while producing 44 points — on downs five times. They fell to 6-4.
