Amazon said Tuesday that it had considered listing tariff charges on Amazon Haul, its discount platform meant to compete with low-cost Chinese e-commerce companies like Temu and Shein, but has decided against it.
Amazon has made no such changes to its platform, but the idea circulated quickly Tuesday morning, inspiring pushback from the White House and even a call from President Donald Trump to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
An Amazon spokesperson told NBC News: βThe team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products. This was never approved and is not going to happen.β
The spokesperson stressed that nothing had been implemented and that the company had not planned to show tariff charges on its main e-commerce portal.
βThis was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties,β the spokesperson added.
