It's not clear how Irwin escaped from his home in the southwestern Colorado town, but kangaroos are permitted to be kept as pets in the state.

"We had an officer ask one of the deputies close by for a lasso, and I don't know how far out he was, so I was like, you know what, we have him cornered now, we might as well just try and apprehend him now", said Officer Shane Garrison.
