Evacuation alert sent in error to nearly 10 million L.A. area residents

Evacuation orders and an alarm sound were mistakenly sent to residents all over Los Angeles County. The alert was meant only for those affected by the Kenneth Fire.

An evacuation alert was sent in error Friday morning to Beverly Hills residents, the city said in a post on X hours after evacuation orders and an alarm sound were mistakenly sent to cellphones of residents all over Los Angeles County and beyond.

Around 4 a.m. local time, residents in the city of Beverley Hills received "another evacuation alert from the LA County Fire Department" but officials "confirmed this was another error," the post on X read.

"There are no evacuations currently affecting BH," the city said.

On Thursday afternoon a text message warning was sent to millions of people around 4 p.m. local time, including in places far from where wildfires are burning out of control.

“An EVACUATION WARNING has been issued in your area,” the text message read, in part. It arrived with a loud buzzing sound.
