Chuck Todd: It’s Kamala Harris' party now. She has 10 weeks to make it count.

If there is one obvious difference between the two conventions, it’s the amount of time Democrats spent trying to reassure skeptical moderates about the party’s direction.

We have two conventions in the rearview mirror, and while they were quite different in focus and tone, they were quite similar in how they made their partisans feel in the moment: confident and euphoric.

I know it has been a long month with a slew of changes in this campaign, but we shouldn’t forget how upbeat Republicans were at their convention, with delegates feeling confident and relieved, viewing former President Donald Trump’s survival of the assassination attempt as divine intervention. Trump’s survival really imbued the convention with confidence and a unity tone the GOP attempted to display.

And then came Trump’s acceptance speech on the last night.

After having promised a unifying speech that was more future-oriented, Trump ended up avoiding some of his planned remarks and instead interjected some of his favorite rally riffs. It was a missed opportunity for him to capitalize on the bit of a halo effect post-shooting, when even skeptics and detractors were curious to see whether a different Trump would be onstage that night.
