Thailand school shooting: Student kills 6 after killing grandparents near Bangkok

At least one teacher was killed and four other people injured by a student who opened fire at a school in Thailand on Friday before killing himself, authorities said.

BANGKOK — A gunman shot and killed his grandparents before killing five people and himself at a school outside Bangkok on Friday, Thailand’s prime minister said, in the Southeast Asian nation’s worst mass killing since 2022.

Anutin Charnvirakul told a news conference that five teachers were shot dead and at least 30 people were injured in the shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, north of Bangkok. The shooter took his own life, he added.

The perpetrator was identified as a student and police said that he had fired at least 26 rounds and that 34 other rounds of ammunition were found at the scene. They said they had recovered a 9 mm handgun believed to belong to his grandfather.

At least two people were in critical condition, police said.
