Joshimath News Live Updates, January 12: An 11-member committee was constituted for the immediate distribution of interim relief for the victims of the crisis, the Chamoli District Magistrate announced.
The local authorities in Joshimath Thursday began the demolition of damaged hotels. A number of hotels in the area have developed cracks and locals fear they could collapse anytime soon. However, hours after beginning the demolition of the damaged hotels, the SDRF team halted its operation due to bad weather, news agency ANI reported. The dismantling work will resume tomorrow morning, Manikant Mishra, SDRF Commandant at Joshimath said.
The Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday announced that the state government was releasing a Rs 45 crore rehabilitation package for those affected by the recent land subsidence crisis in the town of Joshimath. An 11-member committee was constituted for the immediate distribution of interim relief for the victims of the crisis, the Chamoli District Magistrate announced. Meanwhile, about 82 kilometres away from Joshimath, cracks on the roads and fissures on the walls of houses at Karnaprayag have largely gone unreported for about a decade now. The fissures and cracks are now wide and long enough to make several houses inhabitable, forcing the owners and tenants to move out.
A total of eight SDRF teams and two NDRF teams have been deployed for relief operations at Joshimath, Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Kr Sinha said on Thursday, news agency ANI reported.
Sinha added that an army helicopter and army team have been kept on standby. The government has disbursed 2.14 crore for the protection of electric cables and poles in the town.
The Chamoli district administration Thursday issued notice to residents of Bahuguna Nagar in Karnaprayag to immediately vacate the houses that have developed cracks and advised them to shift to nearby 'rain basera', news agency ANI reported.
