The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is responsible for providing all the necessary resources for vehicle registration, titling and licensing in the state. Idaho residents and new arrivals must register their vehicles at their local county assessor's office. Registration requires an Idaho driver's licence, social security number (SSN) and proof of mandatory minimum car insurance: $50,000 for multiple injuries, $25,000 for one person and $15,000 for property damage. Registration fees vary according to the age and weight of the vehicle. The DMV also offers remote registration options for military personnel and students who are temporarily out of state, and has a wide range of specialised licence plates available. Statistics show that SUVs and trucks dominate new registrations. While the state has lower insurance rates, the upward trend in vehicle crashes and fatalities is a serious concern. Renewals can be completed online or in person.
