Diego Luna scored two goals in the opening 15 minutes to lead the USMNT to a 2-1 victory over Guatemala at Energizer Park in St. Louis, Missouri, on Wednesday.

Luna has been a revelation for Mauricio Pochettino’s side at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup (three goals, two assists in five games) and wasted no time in making his mark against Los Chapines, as he scored the opener just four minutes in and doubled the Americans’ advantage right on the quarter-hour mark.
The 21-year-old Real Salt Lake star neatly tucked home Luca de la Torre’s rebound for the first goal, but it was goal No. 2 that will have USMNT fans the most excited. Malik Tillman found Luna some 30 yards from goal, and that was all he needed. Luna slalomed past two defenders to open up a few yards of space before smashing a right-footed finish inside the near post as if there wasn’t a single white shirt anywhere on the field.
Olger Escobar hit back to make it 2-1 in the 80th minute, but goalkeeper Matt Freese made four saves on the night to send the Yanks back to the final after they missed out in 2023.
