He hasn't cut his hair in 323 days. His favorite sports team is to blame.

Frank Ilet announced last October he wouldn't get a haircut until Manchester United won five matches in a row. He's still waiting nearly a year later.

Frank Ilett made a choice as a kid that would eventually haunt him.

Rather than support Liverpool, his mother’s favorite soccer club, he aligned his fandom with Manchester United, the team of his grandfather, uncle and cousin. The decision has recently led to anguish, frustration — and more than a year without a haircut.

Unlike Liverpool, which cruised to the English Premier League title last season, Manchester United struggled from the get-go. By early October it sat in 14th place, its worst start since 1989.

Hoping to lighten the mood of a fan base in the doldrums, Ilett announced on social media he would not cut his hair until the club won five matches in a row. Unfortunately for the 29-year-old (and his hairdresser, used to consistent appointments), the team never accomplished that feat. In fact, it never won more than three consecutive games.

“I thought that’d be funny,” Ilett, who runs 'The United Strand' on social media, told NBC News of the bet. “A nice funny challenge to make people laugh, and then it’ll be all over. But it kept going.”
