Cyclone Mandous Highlights: Under Cyclone Mandous's influence, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
However, the storm has now weakened into a deep depression while moving north of Tamil Nadu, the Indian Meteorological Department said.
Over 400 trees have been uprooted across Chennai which was hit by the winds blowing at a speed of nearly 70 km/hr.
The IMD, has forecast light to moderate rains in neighbouring Karnataka.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin Saturday visited Kasimedu, one of the affected areas, to take stalk of the situation. “With advanced planning, this government proved any disaster can be managed,” Stalin said as quoted by the PTI.
Earlier, state Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K K S S R Ramachandran said over 9,000 people have been lodged in 205 relief centres.
