2020 Vanderhall Venice About 100 years ago, the 3-wheeled vehicle came into popularity as a low cost alternative to a car that was also more practical than a motorcycle. Over time, the popularity of these 3-wheeled vehicles ebbed and flowed but excitement around 3-wheelers had a rebirth in the 2010s with numerous manufacturers coming out with new takes on the formula. As sports cars have become faster and more insulated, the 3-wheeler is a great way to get all the thrills of a supercar, but without the license losing speed or high cost of entry. Founded in 2010, Vanderhall Motor Works set out to build their vision of the ideal 3-wheeler out of a factory based in Provo, Utah.  This 2020 Vanderhall Venice is the brand’s signature model and, in contrast to most other 3-wheelers, comes exceptionally well equipped. Finished in Pearl White with a Black bottom section, over Carmel leather interior, this Venice shows 8,332 miles on the odometer and is in excellent shape. The Venice is immediately identifiable from its airplane fuselage styling, frameless windshield and behind-the-grille headlights- all signature aspects of the Venice. To ensure that the occupants get a properly visceral experience, the cabin sides are cut down, leaving the driver and passenger exposed from the torso up, and a pair of side exhaust give the Venice an exciting rumble, making sure your presence is known wherever you pull up.  The interior is exceptionally appointed for what is traditionally a stripped down sports car. Rich tan leather covers nearly every surface and a 3-spoke wood and metal steering wheel is evocative of classic English sports cars. When you slide down into the driver’s seat, a suite of gauges is laid out in front of you and a row of airplane style toggle switches control the car’s numerous functions. Unlike most 3-wheelers, the Venice is fitted with 2 stage heated seats, as well as Bluetooth audio and cruise control, making this 3 wheeler a vehicle you can enjoy frequently.  Powering the Venice is a 1.5 liter turbocharged inline-4 that sends power through a 6-speed automatic to the front wheels. The underpinnings of this vehicle are exceptionally non-traditional but have many benefits over the more typical formula of a motorcycle engine and rear wheel drive. Utilizing a front wheel drive setup means that, where most 3-wheelers will send you into oversteer at the mere suggestion of throttle in a turn, the Venice has exceptional grip and allows you to power out of a turn with the front wheels pulling you along. This example has also been enhanced with a Bad News Racing ECU tune and blow off valve that unleashes both more horsepower and lots of exciting turbo noises. Disc brakes are fitted to all 3 wheels and have ABS to ensure adequate stopping power in all circumstances.  For most people, a 3-wheeler is not the type of vehicle that is even on their radar as something to add to their collection. But after just a few minutes behind the wheel, it is easy to see why those who are enthusiastic about 3-wheelers love them so much.
