WHO declares monkeypox global public health emergency
The World Health Organization says the monkeypox outbreak is a public health emergency of international concern. In the U.S., nearly 3,000 cases were reported in 45 states, with Maine joining the list this weekend. On Friday, the CDC confirmed the first two U.S. cases of monkeypox in children. The demand for vaccines is overwhelming health departments across the country. In New York City on Friday, 17,000 vaccine appointments were booked in 30 minutes.
