Winter Session of Parliament Live Updates: India has achieved 165.94GW of renewable energy capacity till October as against the target of 175GW by 2022, Parliament was informed.
On the second day of the Winter Session of Parliament, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to move a Bill in Lok Sabha to amend the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 2002. The House is also likely to take up for further consideration The Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill, 2019. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is likely to move that the Bill be passed. Rajya Sabha is likely to take up the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2022 and Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022.

Leaders of several Opposition parties attended a meeting convened by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday to evolve a joint strategy for the Winter Session. The Opposition is seeking to corner the government on several issues including price rise, unemployment and is demanding a discussion on the border security situation in the wake of “incursion” by China and the alleged misuse of agencies by the government.
Piloting the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 in the Upper House, Power Minister R K Singh said the country is working towards reduction in emissions although its per capita emissions is about one third of the global average. "If we look at the total carbon dioxide load on the environment, our contribution is just 3.4 per cent even as our population is 17.5 per cent of the global population," he said.
Yet, the county has emerged as one of the leading nations in energy transition and climate action, he added. "Today our non-fossil fuel power generation capacity is 42 per cent of our total capacity which is around 408 giga watt," he said, adding that this initiative needs to be carried forward.
